And That’s A Wrap
Here we are. The end of the my work on this short film. For a while there, this moment felt so far away. But now that it is here, I feel like it went so fast. I feel like Rip Van Winkle almost, just waking up and finding out the movie is done for me. Crazy feeling, but a happy one. I’m glad to have found a passion for lighting through this endeavor, that, and set design. I love being able to just create a little world for people to move characters around in. It’s such a cool feeling to see the world get added to by movements or when other people on my team add little tidbits.
As for my last stuff, just worked on some outdoor city lighting. This was actually the hardest stuff, which I’m glad it was the last stuff. So many light sources. Sheesh. Three point lighting still held up well, but I had to think about shadows and how the street lights and lit windows would effect shadows and the overall contrast of shots. It was a lot of work for some pretty short scenes; however, we managed to get through it. The over all process was pretty much the same throughout. Find a certain key light, something that was diegetic within the scene and then accentuate it with the fill and rim lights. Although I often found the fill light being out of place if the color contrast was too strong which often left me with more subtle uses of it. So to give the models a more three-dimensional feel, I went heavy on the rim light. I kind of picked up a technique from shows like the Daily Show, where I put the Rim light up high over the character’s head, and as long as we don’t see their feet, it added a pretty good rim light for a lot less work.
Anyways, I’ll post some stills below. And for the first time….
This is the end!
