The Last Leg… of the JOURNEY

Oh, so close! The finish line is in sight. I can feel it. Yet, there is still so much to get done. Only a month left, but it still feels like we have two months of work left. We just started the music not too long ago, but thank goodness those musicians wanted to help us, or else we’d still be using basic tracks we found on YouTube. I haven’t heard it yet, but I am sure it’ll be better than what we already have. Hopefully, it flows with the action better.

As for my side of the woods, Lighting is still going strong. We found some shots that were still in the lighting list that got cut and rearranged the load since it had become lopsided due to this discovery. Now, instead of outdoor lighting, we are inside the Music Hall. Making the set feel like a lived in Music Hall of the cartoony 1920’s was an interesting process, that coupled with the pipeline which seems to have been slightly mangled and misshapen due to everyone scrambling for the finish line. But I think I got some good lighting in there that touches on the idea of a dim, dark place to come and listen to some cool jazz and hang out with your favorite “legal” cocktail.

There were some issues with the renders as now it looks much brighter than it does in the Render Viewer Window Thingy in Maya. But you get the idea. As for the main event, the stage was a fun one to light, especially with all the scenes we have for it. I did not get to do the fight scenes, but they came out pretty well, from what I’ve seen. It was a challenge to match the lighting in each shot outside of the set lights. Adding a fill light here or a Rim light there required that the lighting team coordinate and share techniques. We eventually just combined all the similar shots to the same artist toward the end, which was much easier, but it was fun to share how we each did the lighting once and while. Gave me some insights and new ideas on how to light things.

That’s all for now. See you next time!!
