Lights at Night are very… Purple

Here we are. Another week another scene lit up. I found an excellent tutorial on how to make play blasts look almost rendered (something I didn’t know was possible) but at the same time, it doesn’t look as good as an Arnold render. But it’ll hopefully look good once we get all the textures ready and rearing to go. That Preview Screening is coming faster than I thought it would. But with break coming up, it’ll be a nice change of pace for the last leg of the semester. The group has been really clicking lately. Not a lot of drama, although some random changes in who oversees who has made things somewhat redundant, but whatever.

I’m pretty excited about the lighting process though. It really brings scenes to life, although sometimes the act of lighting a scene within preset parameters can be challenging. I think for some of the bayou scenes, I’d like more directional lights, but with the Music Hall, the multiple overlapping artificial light really makes it feel alive. Especially with the silhouettes on the street now. Can’t wait to see it fully textured with some lighting effects we are cooking up for individual moments within the animations.

One thing we’ve been talking about as a team is fireflies. Whether or not we should put them in in post or have me make some animated point lights that you can see in the background. I’ll probably do some research into it over break and see what’s more practical with our every tightening schedule.

Either way, that’s all for now.

Play blast for the proposed lighting of the scene. Quite bright but gets the idea across for the Preview Screening.

The same scene above but Arnold Render. I love the subtle lighting on the tops of the buildings mixed with the warm lights below. So cool!
